As we did not have a School Advisory Council (SAC) or Parent Council scheduled this month we wanted to post an Admin Report in its place. Please contact the school if you have any questions or would like clarification.

Career and Technology Studies (CTS)

Our Foods Lab is fully up and running, with students in Grades 7–9 scheduled for two periods per week in Foods programming.

The CTS trailer is also operational, with Mr Mark Zagorsky teaching:

  • High school students in Mechanics

  • Grades 7–9 students primarily in Woods, with one Grade 9 group participating in a hybrid Woods/Mechanics program

Each Junior High CTS class has been split into two groups, with each group receiving two periods per week. Students were given the opportunity to opt in or opt out of CTS programming, and we are pleased to report that only three junior high students opted out.

Student Engagement & Family Voice

We are working on setting up a Student Engagement Survey and Café-style meetings with parents and families.

  • We expect the parent engagement to take place on March 11 during ourSchool Advisory Council (SAC) meeting.

  • We also plan to meet with Bassano students who have chosen programs in other schools to help us plan at the school to provide for our students in-house and reduce the number of students leaving for High School.

Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

  • Basketball season is underway with one junior high team. A sincere thank you to Mr Hodgson for stepping in and stepping up to ensure our athletic program continues to move forward.

  • Our Ski Trip is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, with approximately 70 students and staff participating.

  • The SAC has also been very active this week, supporting and organising Spirit Week activities, as shared at the previous SAC meeting.

Career Pathways & Post-Secondary Connections

We continue to expand opportunities related to career exploration and off-campus learning:

  • Kristi from Careers: The Next Generation visited to speak with Grades 9–12 students about Work Experience, RAP, and Off-Campus Learning

  • We currently have four students enrolled in Dual Credit programs:

    • 1 student through Northern Lakes College

      • Educational Assistant

    • 3 students through Lethbridge Polytechnic

      • 2 in entrepreneurial studies

      • 1 in game design

  • Olds College will be visiting this Wednesday to speak with high school students about post-secondary programs and pathways

Upcoming Presentations & Learning Experiences

  • Mary Lambert will be presenting to our elementary students on Friday from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

  • Alex Scaplock from Siksika meets monthly with Siksika students in Grades 4-12 to learn to play the drums. There has been discussion about expanding this program to other students as time and space allow and more discussion will follow.
